From Competitors to Collaborators: The Value of Agency Hackers

As the Managing Director of a full-service marketing agency, Reech, I've always believed that our success is driven by the incredible team around me and the ongoing pursuit of knowledge. For years, I held the common view shared by many agency owners: we shouldn't share information with competitors. There was fear of someone stealing ideas, poaching our staff, or simply creating a conflict of interest. After all, we're all in the same business, trying to thrive in the same competitive space.
But all of that recently changed, after attending a series of networking events and workshops. What I once saw as a competitive risk, I began to realise could be a treasure trove of opportunity.
The Power of Knowledge Sharing.
The first glimpse I had into this new world came through a Mastermind event hosted by Mark Wright, which united 20 entrepreneurs and business owners. It was a safe space, with collaboration and encouragement at its core. What struck me most was how different it was from the traditional mindset of keeping ideas close to the chest. Rather than seeing other agencies as competitors, we came together as a community that was genuinely interested in helping each other grow. The conversations were candid, insightful, and practical, providing access to actionable ideas that I could immediately introduce to the team and implement across the agency.
For someone like me, who's used to making decisions from a place of experience and gut instinct, this shift in perspective was refreshing. I realised that sharing knowledge didn't make us vulnerable. Quite the contrary: it made us stronger. We all brought different skills, experiences, and strategies to the table, and through that exchange, everyone benefitted. I walked away from the Mastermind bursting with new ideas, best practices, and a renewed sense of inspiration for how Reech could grow.
Continuous Learning & Networking.
After that initial encounter, I was invited by another attendee to tag along to an Agency Hackers event. Needless to say, I quickly became addicted.
For the next 12 months, I continued attending various events hosted by Agency Hackers, focusing on key areas like marketing, sales, and growth. An information goldmine, they allowed me to stay on top of the latest trends, discover new ways to approach challenges, and learn from the journeys of other agency owners.
One of the standout moments during this partnership so far was when I was invited to speak at an Agency Hackers event in March last year. The topic? Teamwork.com. It was a fantastic opportunity to share how we at Reech have built a culture of collaboration, efficiency and unity through harnessing latest technology.
But perhaps the most transformative experience came in the summer of 2024, when I joined 200 agency owners for a two-and-a-half day event in Ibiza. This was a game-changer.
Rory Sutherland, Vice Chairman and Creative Director at Oglivy UK, was the keynote speaker and took to the stage to explain his Sudoku theory, the patters he's noticed in marketing's lack of genuine creativity, and how to fix it. Plus, the sessions on content, social media, and personal brand presentation were incredibly valuable, but it was the informal wrap-around conversations that were the real eye-opener. Being able to connect on a more personal level with people who faced similar challenges was nothing short of inspiring. It wasn't just about business strategies, but also shared experiences, lessons learned, and building genuine relationships.
And most recently, Reech's Agency Director, Amelia and I attended the annual Growth Summit at The British Library, King's Cross. It left us feeling excited and pumped for the year ahead armed with awesome nuggets to take back to the wider Reech team for the coming weeks, months, and year ahead.
A Community of Like-Minded Growth-Oriented Agencies.
One of the unique aspects of being a member of Agency Hackers is the group's exclusivity - only agencies with a turnover of £1m+ are eligible to join. This means that the people you're interacting with are serious about significant growth. They've been through the trials and tribulations of scaling an agency and are committed to the journey ahead. It's a community where everyone is striving for more, and everyone has something valuable to offer.
I've developed particularly close relationships with around 20 other members from agencies of various sizes, in different niches, from across the UK. We're in regular contact to soundboard ideas, provide advice and guidance, and even introduce clients that aren't the right fit for our retrospective agencies but might be a good match elsewhere. This peer-to-peer support has been invaluable, helping me see challenges from different perspectives and providing solutions that I might not have considered otherwise.
The Reech Advantage.
I've always stood by the mantra: 'You're only as good as your last piece of work'. This principle is something we live and breathe at Reech, driving us to continually improve and innovate. Being part of Agency Hackers only strengthens that commitment. By learning from others, attending events, and participating in ongoing discussions, we're able to stay ahead of the curve and deliver better results for our clients.
In fact, several members of the Reech team are attending Agency Hackers events throughout 2025, with a focus on operations, creativity, and the future of AI in marketing. As a team, we're committed to not only maintaining but enhancing our expertise to meet the changing needs of our clients.

Being part of the Agency Hackers has been a game-changer for me and Reech. It's more than just a networking group - it's a community of like-minded, growth-focused individuals who are invested in mutual success. The knowledge sharing, the peer support, and the inspiration from fellow agency leaders have all played a significant role in how we approach business today.
